Maurice Scott has stepped down as the head girls basketball coach at South Bend Washington, the school's Athletic Director Stacy Adams tells NewsCenter 16.

Scott was 91-45 in six season as the Panthers Head Coach.

Scott was very active during his time at Washington to following his step daughter Skylar Diggins and made every effort to be at as many of her games as possible when she played at Notre Dame. As she continues to blossom in the WNBA, he likely wants to spend more time following her career.

His son Junior Scott will also be the starting point guard at Riley this winter. Mo's departure will allow to him to see his son play a lot more.

"I am resigning from my current position as head coach of Washington High School because I cannot give the program the time and energy it takes, I need to give that time and energy to my Family," Scott said in a statement released by the school. "I don’t think it’s fair to anyone if I stayed as Coach and I could not go above and beyond the job description."

His greatest success came in his first season in 2008-2009 when he took over for Marilyn Coddens to coach his step daughter Skylar for her senior season. The Panthers went 26-1 that season, losing their only game in the state finals to Ben Davis.

Prior to becoming the the head coach, Scott was an assistant under Coddens.

"The appreciation I have for the Pride of The West Side is immeasurable," Scott said. "I have been blessed to work with a great administration and student athletes. I will take many positive memories with me as I continue my journey thru Life."

Scott leaves Washington in a good place. The team is loaded this season and has the potential to make a deep postseason run.
