NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Two police officers have been shot dead in Brooklyn, police sources confirmed to WCBS 880 Saturday evening.
As 1010 WINS’ Gary Baumgarten reported, there is a huge police presence at the corner of Myrtle Avenue & Tompkins Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Cornegy told 1010 WINS’ police have briefed him and told him the officers were sitting in their car at the time of the incident.

Two uniformed NYPD officers were shot dead Saturday afternoon as they sat in their marked police car on a Brooklyn street corner — in what investigators believe was a crazed gunman’s execution-style mission to avenge Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

Reminded me of the opening scene of "Fort Apache: The Bronx." Entire movie is available at IMDB.

I'm disgusted about this. What's going to be even more disgusting is the "political posturing" that is going to start very quickly.

another one in FL:

A police officer was shot and killed early Sunday morning in Florida, officials said. The Pinellas County Sheriff's office said the shooting occurred at around 3 a.m. EST in Tarpon Springs, about 30 miles from Tampa, Florida. The sheriff's office said the suspect is in custody but did not provide further details on a possible motive.

The shooting came hours after a gunman shot and killed two police officers in Brooklyn before taking his own life. Investigators in New York believe the attacker boasted on social media about a plan to target cops, possibly out of revenge for the deaths of two unarmed black men who died in confrontations with police.

Another NYPD officer was almost shot over night. There was a call and the suspect had a gun and pointed it point blank and pulled the trigger but it was unloaded. This world is going nuts

Not that it's at all relevant but I heard one background report (Fox News) on the Brooklyn shooter saying that he's from a "Muslim family."
