50 roundabouts . . . whatever number of roundabouts . . .

This diversion misses the larger point here.

St. Joseph County has large pockets of poverty; Carmel does not.

Carmel homeowners have a 1% cap on their property taxes; St. Joseph County homeowners have a cap ½% higher than Carmel’s to help fund local government corruption.

St. Joseph County youth are forced to leave the area when they come of age, to secure a living-income wage; Carmel youth have as many job options as youth in many Midwest U.S. cities.

This is a true saying, and worthy of universal acceptance: “If you elect crooks to office, the electorate is going to get robbed.“ And we are getting robbed blind by government leaders who have particular proficiency in proliferating corruption.

You cannot compare St. Joseph County with Carmel, IN. You can, however, contrast the two cities. In fact, anyone could write a lengthy book contrasting the two areas. As the Dickens classic, A Tale of Two Cities opens, “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.” And that is exactly the contrast of Carmel, IN and St. Joseph County, respectively.

Carmel area residents wisely chose a free-market system that encourages new businesses that bring living-income jobs to their area. The people of St. Joseph County foolishly continue to install Socialistic regimes that drive most high-paying jobs away from this area. So our bureaucrats, Democrats, and other rats feel led to continue to lie to the people, giving them false hopes of a nanotechnology treasure-chest of jobs that will never materialize. And a mayor who sees that this lie cannot be perpetuated – that the house of cards will soon come crashing down – suddenly decides that maybe it is not a great idea to run for his um-teenth term.

If you want to draw comparisons, compare St. Joseph County with Chicago. Is not this area fondly referred to as “Little Chicago” ? Or compare St. Joseph County to other Socialistic enclaves such as Detroit, that has lost a huge percentage of its population due to migration away from rising poverty. Or how about comparison with Benton Harbor, whose failing incorporation needed to be placed into government receivership ?

Maybe there is some method to the madness of all this roundabout stuff. When fleeing from a crime scene, a roundabout would keep one from having to come to a complete stop, thereby increasing the liklihood of escape, AND saving the tax-payers the unnecessary expense of an investigation and trial which would be pled down to nothing anyway. Also, since it's harder to hit a moving target, the liklihood of being caught in the crossfire of one of the cities many drive-by's while in a roundabout would decrease significantly. Win/win! Im picturing "Grand Theft Auto: South Bend" filled with roundabouts to test the thug's combined driving/marksmanship skills.

Why not plant pretty greenery and perhaps selected shrubs in the center of these roust-abouts ? Just think -- when those cute "going green" enhancements approach maturity, you could decrease driver visability of other drivers on the circle, and thus increase accidents.

Why would anyone ever need to routinely trim to maintain this greenspace ?

I disagree with you. I think a round-a-bout would give the chasing officer a chance to catch up and provide a spot to block the fleeing thug. You have to slow down which decreases the impact. The only problem with roundabouts is people are going to spend a couple of generations learning how to use them.

Gotta disagree. The only real visibility you need at a roundabout is to the left to see if there's traffic to yield to. Anyone else in the circle is irrelevant. Once you're in the circle, you need to look to the outside for your exit.

One need not have visibility over the center of the circle for safety.
