Remember back in the day when being on food stamps was something someone did in only the most desperate of circumstances, because people used to have pride and self-respect and dignity and didn't want to have to ever rely on someone else for something as basic as food?

Yeah. Those were good times. I mean, obviously they weren't if you were on food stamps, but if you've ever been on food stamps temporarily due to falling on some super hard times, and you hated every minute of it and it embarrassed you and you did everything in your power to get OFF of food stamps at the earliest possible moment you could, then you know what? I respect that.

What I have no respect for is women like this chick:

And it's not just that she tried to buy iPads with her EBT card. Of course that's sick and wrong, but what's also sick and wrong to me is that there is such a thing as EBT cards. It used to be that if you used food stamps, it was SUPER OBVIOUS to everyone in the world that what you were using was food stamps. It wasn't CONVENIENT to use them. It SUCKED to use them.

And frankly, that's exactly how it SHOULD be. The kind of shame people used to feel when pulling out food stamps is precisely what motivated them to stop needing them in the first place. But today? People are shameless, and government WANTS them to be shameless. That's why there are those handy, discreet EBT cards.

The result is what you see in the video above. Disgusting parasites who vote for Obama and other Democrats, so that they can keep using their handy, discreet EBT cards to try and buy iPads with them.

Since these transactions are done with a swipe card, I'd love to see an analysis of the data on purchases made according to the various categories of aid recipients.

My hunch is that there is significant misuse of these funds. Part of that misuse may result from inadequate instruction about the proper use of public monies. I am certain that far too often there is intentional fraud.

I spent a brief amount of time as a security guard at the Kroger's in the area and the things I saw by people on food stamps was disgusting.

They go on a wild spending spree the 1st of every month snatching up expensive meats, unnecessary snacks and the finest brand name products their Obamabucks can buy, then by the 15th they are buying generic white bread and bologna by the slice 'cause the ol' EBT card is nearly tapped out. It is funny as hell to watch them shop at KROGER on Western - yesterday, Buck observed a woman examine a $5.99 can of Kroger coffee then decide an $11.99 can of Maxwell House (containing 6 ounces less) was a better choice. You guessed it: A few minutes later, she proudly whipped out the magic blue card. No wonder they can't stretch their entitlement for 4 weeks.

Wost thing (happened all the time) was someone would go through. but $150 worth of groceries, and have $5 or something not covered by ebt then whip out a wad of bills more then i make in a month to pay it. Clearly working for a living has been the wrong choice, i should have been a minority female. Have two or three kids from 3 or 4 dads, get child support, EBT, WIC Section 8, TANIF ect. work a min wage job long enough to get unemployment and milk that for 2 years getting extension again and again.

Readers of SBF will find the article by Peter Cove "What I Learned in the Poverty War: Work, not welfare, uplifts the poor" very interesting. A self-identified one-time "foot soldier in the War Against Poverty," Cove eventually discovered that "the best way to get clients off welfare was to get them paid work immediately, rather than enroll them in training and education programs."

He offers hard-won wisdom:

"My experience with long-term welfare clients has led me to propose a radical solution: that we abolish all cash welfare, as well as food and housing assistance—except for the elderly and the physically and mentally disabled—in order to move from a dependency culture to one of work-first."

Welfare recipients take out cash at strip clubs, liquor stores

They’re on the dole — and watching the pole.

Welfare recipients took out cash at bars, liquor stores, X-rated video shops, hookah parlors and even strip clubs — where they presumably spent their taxpayer money on lap dances rather than diapers, a Post investigation found.

A database of 200 million Electronic Benefit Transfer records from January 2011 to July 2012, obtained by The Post through a Freedom of Information request, showed welfare recipients using their EBT cards to make dozens of cash withdrawals at ATMs inside Hank’s Saloon in Brooklyn; the Blue Door Video porn shop in the East Village; The Anchor, a sleek SoHo lounge; the Patriot Saloon in TriBeCa; and Drinks Galore, a liquor distributor in The Bronx.

The state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), which oversees the “cash assistance program,” even lists some of these welfare-ready ATMs on its Web site.

One EBT machine is stationed inside Club Eleven, an infamous Hunts Point jiggle joint known as much for its violent history as its girls in pink thongs.

Cops have been cracking down on the Bronx club since 2009 and shut it down temporarily in 2010. In July, five men were stabbed and two others shot outside after bouncers broke up a 4 a.m. brawl with pepper spray. The club appeared to be shuttered when The Post visited Thursday.

Club Heat, another Bronx strip club that dispenses EBT cash, is also no stranger to violence. A 33-year-old woman was fatally shot in the head outside the club in December 2011.

Critics blasted the government for turning a blind eye to welfare’s sleazy money.

Yes. WHERE Is The Shame?

Mr. Mock and I were just having a discussion the other night about how glorified and celebrated people are these days for being disgusting jerks. Remember when celebrities were terrified of scandals because they'd be ruined by them? Now -it's the best thing that can happen to a D-lister looking for fame and fortune (see: Kardashians.)

We talked about moments in pop culture that contribute to the shift from shaming people who do awful things to glorifying them. Mr. Mock mentioned Bill Clinton. I lamented how many people willingly and intentionally choose to watch Honey Boo Boo. We talked about the show Sixteen and Pregnant. There are tons of examples, really.

And so it was coincidental but not surprising that other people seem to be having similar discussions.
Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer are the latest scandalized politicians who are both facing a decent shot of winning their respective elections in NY. And they're not alone in their bouncebacks. As the article says:

They join the growing roster of comebacks, or at least serious attempts, by scandal-tarred politicians:

– Mark Sanford was elected to a South Carolina congressional seat in May, after admitting an affair in 2009 that resulted in the then-governor paying a large ethics fine and led state lawmakers to consider impeaching him.

– Newt Gingrich made a decent run at the presidency last year, even as details resurfaced about how his affairs had helped break up his first two marriages.

– Marion Barry, convicted of cocaine possession in 1990, was re-elected as the mayor of Washington four years later and still serves on its city council.

There are dozens of other examples. And just as Mr. Mock pointed out, Clinton's impeachment without being removed from office is probably the most telling. I mean, he's basically REVERED, y'all.

Politicians and celebrities used to fear news breaking of their marital troubles or drug addictions. Now, the more drugs they do and the more sexually deviant they are, the more they cash in.

And nothing shocks us anymore. We are basically desensitized to everything.

As the sourcelink points out, the lesson is this: "Wind up on the ever-increasing roll of tainted celebrities and re-emerge as the friendly, professional politician that vaulted you into office in the first place, and you’ll probably be OK."

Apparently, we're either a really forgiving society, or a completely indifferent one.

And it's not just celebrities and politicians. There's no shame in dependency anymore. People used to be MORTIFIED to have to rely on the government for anything - welfare, housing - if they were getting a handout, they didn't want people to know. They had pride. They had dignity.

Now? They have an EBT card so they can avoid the "stigma" of paper food stamps. And they raise generations of new government dependents, without a moment's thought.

I don't know about you all, but I think America could stand to use a little shame brought back into the culture.
