File Now to Avoid the Rush

File Now to Avoid the Rush

St. Joseph County residents are beginning to receive their 2017 property tax assessments.

Be sure to be sitting down when you open yours. "Outer county" property owners are getting hit with 40% to 50% increases. Land assessments in 30,000-plus population Granger are on the threshold of $100,000 per acre.

Do the arithmetic, folks. That translates to $64 Million per square mile of land ! ! !

Wake up -- the caps established with the 2008 Indiana Tax Reform are based upon "assessed value". As South Bend increasingly descends into poverty, the folks in the outer county are going to get robbed to fund the $21 Million SmartStreets, $1 Million roundabouts, and other high-waste projects. The 200,000 SJC folks living outside of South Bend are chumps -- they won't mind government corruption and exploitation of the disenfranchised outer county.

South Bend and SJC leaders are glorified thieves. YOU do not get to vote them out of office, but THEY get to relieve you of your cash and spend it on boondoggles such as the Football Hall of Fame. Do you remember that fleecing of the citizens ?

The last county-wide assessment was accompanied by over 4,000 over-taxation appeals. How many citizens are going to be pleased with 40% tax increases when their salary / wages have increased less than 10% over the same period ? ? ?

"The housing market has turned around and property values are booming."

Don't you believe that bold-faced lie !

Where is the regional job creation that would drive escalating demand and resulting price increases ?

Get down to the 3rd floor City-County Building, Assessors office NOW to appeal your over-assessment.

Avoid the rush !

Bob, it pays to appeal . . .

The last assessment was waaaaaay over what it should have been -- and in a down market, no less.
I told them, " If I can get what you are valuing my property at, I will sell my house immediately !!! "

They ended up reducing my assessment by $18,000.

I did the simple math for the "Land" portion of the assessment, using the published dimensions of my lot. The Assessor's Office is valuing my small lot at an equivalent of over $80,000 per acre, and I have the data to prove it !

I talked to some other in the neighborhood and their land assessments went down. One was told that it was because it had been too high in previous years. :hand:

SJC politicians & bureaucrats = bumbling, Keystone Cops

Our Socialist leaders are not worthy of their Socialist brand. I thought that the whole idea of their ideology is that you rob from the rich to fund corrupt government.

Why aren't folks with 4-car garages taxed an additional $25,000 ?
Why isn't the University of ND's $11 billion endowment "milked" to fund our wasteful government ?

These folks are wannabee Socialists. They believe in robbing the rich (and the not-so-rich). They won't mind being relieved of all of their excess cash !

Our politicians and bureaucrats are giving Socialism a bad name ! ! !
