ELKHART, Ind. - Three police officers are now accused of sending inappropriate e-mails from their city accounts.

On Wednesday, the Elkhart Board of Public Safety voted to serve notice of the charges against Lt. Peggy Snider and Detective Scott Weaver, that's according to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

The other officer accused is Lt. Brent Long.

He has been given a four-day suspension without pay and was placed on probation for one year.

Punishment for Weaver has been recommended to be demotion from detective to corporal, a four-day suspension, requiring him to participate in the employee assistance program, as well as to have training on the police department's computer use and email policy.

Snider is being accused of "grossly offensive and inappropriate emails that were totally unrelated to police business."

Weaver is accused of "sending an inappropriate e-mail that could easily be perceived as sexually motivated."

Weaver and Snider have been scheduled for disciplinary hearings on Dec. 3.

The emails were discovered last month during an unrelated investigation.
