Rallies planned in South Bend after shootings in Dallas, Louisiana, Minnesota

People in the South Bend area are invited to attend a rally Friday night in honor of the victims of the deadly shootings in Dallas, Louisiana   :hand:  and Minnesota this week.

Attendees should gather at 7 p.m. on the East Race, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg said. The South Bend River Lights will be lit up red, white and blue in honor of the victims, who he said were all Americans.

Buttigieg spoke about the city’s response to the shootings at a press conference Friday with South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski, U.S. Senate 2nd District candidate Lynn Coleman, South Bend Common Council members and several others.

He said people are being singled out and injured because of labels like “black,” “undocumented,” “gay” and “cop.” The true test, he said, is to look beyond the labels and remember that every person is a human being deserving of respect.

“All of us are capable for looking at a person and failing to see the humanity in that person, but all of us are capable of rising above that,” Buttigieg said. “All of us are capable of rising above hate, bias, prejudice.”

(Thinking Mayor Pete should light the river blue in support of 5 innocent LE lives lost, just like he did for Orlando victims. ALL LIVES MATTER!
‪#‎cityofsouthbend‬ ‪#‎bluelivesmatter‬ ‪#‎alllivesmatter‬ ‪#‎southbendriverlights‬) from a wife of a Police Officer
I guess it's only okay to honor a label in South Bend, when it's the lable you wear. We can color the waters Pride, but not blue. We hide the loss of 5 police, under the American flag. There is a time and a place to honor the fallen specifically, and today is the day to honor those killed in Dallas. We could stand with pride colors and make that statement. It seems the only color we cannot support at all, as a community is blue. But it takes alot of courage to do that. To step up to the plate and stand on the thin blue line, with the sheepdogs. SMH

Seriously, Pete's gay friends, innocents, executed by a cold blooded bigot get the river colored Pride. Cops, innoncents also, executed by cold blooded killers and they do not get the same respect. The river is not colored blue. It is colored red, white and blue? Really Pete? That is very shallow and disrespectful, and does not make the clear statement that it is not open season on Law Enforcement. It does not sent the message that the police are innocent until proven guilty. Think about that one too, yea, the sex offender criminal, carrying an illegal gun, resisting arrest is presumed innocent, but the police he was attempting to shoot resisting arrest are gulty until proven innocent? Not in my constitutional law classes. And worse yet, 5 police officers, in a different city across the country are guilty and executed for a supposed crime others have not been found guilty of committing elsewehere. It's the definition of insanity. And to tie Pete's little shin dig tonight to the Black Lives rally protesting cops????? That spells disrespect with a captial D.

Coleman encouraged people to recognize the right to protest and he urged all protestors to keep their demonstrations peaceful.

“We don’t need another person hurt or killed because of hatred and bigotry,” he said.

A second rally is planned for 9 p.m. Saturday at the water fountain in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center. Attendees are being encouraged to stay peaceful and bring signs. :hand:

This is the disgusting person who wants everyone to "rally for justice" tomorrow. I thank Melissa Marie for exposing his disgusting Facebook ramblings and the true agenda for this "rally"

I won't pretend I can relate to racism. I can't. With that being said, this "peaceful" protest is being organized by someone who displays anything but peace in his posts. I'm always respectful of a peaceful protest, but I'm not down with how this man is throwing gasoline on a community that is working hard to improve relationships between various groups. Not down with it at all. Don't care what color you are, this is hateful and disgusting.
Ps. If you plan on attending and things go south, HAVE NO FEAR! SBPD will come running, to protect you from any foolishness, just as they did in Dallas. That's what they signed up for, of course...

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -
A Black Lives Matter rally is planned in downtown South Bend for Saturday.
However, the organizer’s Facebook activity has some questioning his motives.
Blue Casey, the young activist planning this rally insists it will be peaceful, although his Facebook profile photo Thursday was a cartoon masked figure spilling the blood of an officer.
“The profile picture was art. It was an artistic statement. It was to show a lot of anger,” Casey said.
:liar: :liar: :naughty:   :hand:

Casey since changed his profile photo to a description for the rally Saturday, but says he won’t take the cartoon down completely from his profile.
“It’s artwork. It’s meant to spark a conversation. And it’s meant to probably offend people,” Casey said.
Casey also posted a status Thursday night saying, “Currently watching live streams of what’s going on in Dallas, might just order a pizza.”
He hasn’t taken it down, but apologizes.
“It wasn’t meant to be distasteful. I spoke too soon,” Casey said.
Despite social media, Casey says the event in South Bend Saturday activity to detract from what he says will be a peaceful rally.
“We want to come together as a whole with the whole community, blacks, whites, Mexicans, anybody that feels outraged by unarmed black males and women being killed by police officers,” Casey said.
Casey’s asking that no matter the feelings, attendees keep things violence free.
“We want people to come down there peacefully, and use the strategy that MLK used. There’s no reason to riot and start killing our own in South Bend,” Casey said.
As for the officers, he says he wants them to be safe as well.
“We don’t want to attack any officers,” Casey said.

This is a video where both these BLM idiots listed above scream about the "injustice" of their hate filled Facebook pages being taken down. This Nia Okereke also wants everyone to "come down and riot with us at the rally"

This rally flyer has been going around social media.

SOUTH BEND -
This Facebook post from a man saying he was "ready to riot," with gun and fire emojis, runs counter to the message of the rally, says the event's organizer, Blu Casey.

"We're not there to cause violence, we're not there to start up a riot. We're there to actually let our voices be heard, and that's the whole method of this mission." Casey said.

Though Casey himself was also active on social media, telling followers to change their profile picture to this image of a police officer getting his throat cut.

"Do I advocate that? No, but it was an artistic statement." Casey said.

He says it's simply an expression of frustration from the black community, but that it's just a creative expression, not a blueprint for tomorrow night.

"I know that a lot of people want us to riot, a lot of people want us to come out and show our ignorance." Casey said.

Police say they'll handle this rally like they handled the presidential visit, making sure everyone has a chance to exercise their First Amendment rights.

"I think those people from that perspective going, 'You know what? This is the right thing and the right way to do it at the right time.' far outweigh those that want to wreak havoc and hurt other people." South Bend Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski said.

Chief Scott Ruszkowski says the city is aware of the threats and takes them seriously.

"Threats can't be accepted on anyone, whether it's the rest of our family not wearing a police uniform, or those who are wearing a police uniform on behalf of the rest of the family." he said.

He says if people feel better venting on social media, it's better than acting it out in real life.

"It's their freedom of speech, absolutely, that's what we do as police officers is ensure that happens, not to impede or intrude on that." Ruszkowski said.

(I watched and did not hear anything about the Hero Police Officers in Dallas, only sporadic, childish chanting of Black Lives Matter..... but when they saw cameras, they were very animated...)

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -
A peaceful Black Lives Matter rally drew a crowd of hundreds in downtown South Bend Saturday evening.

The event started at 9 p.m. and lasted until roughly 11:30 p.m.

ABC57’s Sara Rivest and Taylor Popielarz spoke with organizers, demonstrators and were live from the rally – including when demonstrators marched throughout downtown South Bend.

The bulk of the rally took place outside the Morris Performing Arts Center on N. Michigan Street.

Multiple speakers addressed the crowd, spoken word poetry was performed, candles were lit, t-shirts and signs were given out and prayer circles formed.

The entire event was peaceful and no arrests were made.

Organizers repeatedly told the crowd – made up of children, adults and senior citizens of all backgrounds – that the event was a peaceful rally and not a protest; also adding that the demonstration was not meant to criticize police, but to condemn white supremacy.

A South Bend man has been arrested and charged after posting violent threats on social media over the weekend.

Isaiah Beavers, 26, was arrested Saturday afternoon before a Black Lives Matter South Bend Peace Rally that was being held in response to the recent police-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota.

An investigator learned of the Facebook posts and immediately began to investigate.

According to the affidavit, several comments by Beavers indicated possible violence including efforts to intimidate people or to destroy property.

A pre-trial detention hearing has been set for Wednesday.
