Guidance with Appealing Your Property Tax Over-Assessment

Postby OldFud » Thu Aug 24, 2017 12:02 pm

.
A neighbor asked for direction today in appealing his over-assessment -- it jumped 40-something THOUSAND dollars ! ! !

The South Bend Forum is a great place to find friendly folks to help with such questions as:
1. How do I file an appeal if St. Joseph County (SJC) has increased assessment of my property by a mid-5-figure number, or higher ?
2. Where do I go to file an appeal of my over-assessment ?
3. What can I do while I am waiting months to get my appeal heard ?
4. How do I prepare my case against the over-assessment ?
5. What position(s) can I take to make a strong case that I have been over-assessed ?

Three things to remember:
Over-assessment is common in St. Joseph County
Appealing an over-assessment is EASY -- anyone can appeal with little time, and zero cost investment
All SJC residents must remain vigilant. You are very likely to be over-assessed to help fund city of South Bend waste and corruption.
