3 arrested after theft-for-narcotics investigation

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) Three people have been arrested after a two-week investigation into a theft-for-narcotics ring in Kosciusko County, according to the Sheriff's Department.

On August 29, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department responded to a domestic dispute complaint on E. Bucher Drive. Amy Farmer, 35, was arrested for resisting, criminal mischief and arson.

Police say a stolen, burnt cargo trailer was visible in plain sight. A search warrant was obtained, and police say they found other stolen items.

On September 5, 39-year-old Scott Farmer was arrested for outstanding warrants.

When he was interviewed by Kosciusko County detectives, he allegedly admitted to stealing the burnt cargo trailer and trading the tools that were inside it for drugs. He also reportedly admitted to stealing three other trailers.

This led Kosciusko County detectives to a home on S. Main Street in Milford. A search warrant was obtained, and police found stolen items, along with drug paraphernalia, a small meth lab and some firearms.


Kosciusko County detectives were then led to the home of 45-year-old Allan Foyle on D6 Lane in Syracuse.

Officers found methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and stolen property. Foyle was arrested for dealing methamphetamine and possession of stolen property.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) South Bend police have arrested three people in connection with Tuesday's shooting in an alley by LaSalle Park Homes.

Daalerhay Gray, 26, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a level 4 felony; and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.

Jaylen Green, 19, was charged with carrying a handgun without a license, a class A misdemeanor; and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.

Treveon Smith, 19, was charged with carrying a handgun without a license, a class A misdemeanor; and carrying a handgun without a license, a level 5 felony.

All three are from South Bend. During the course of the investigation, they each admitted to firing a gun, according to police.

On Tuesday morning, officers responded to the 3700 block of West Jefferson on reports of a shooting in an alley.

Two officers were in the area at the time on unrelated calls and heard the gunfire. No officers were shot at or injured.


Smith suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder. He's expected to be okay.

Officers arrested Gray and Green shortly after the shooting. Smith was arrested after treatment at the hospital.

The shooting remains under investigation.

Children found in home with guns, drugs; woman arrested

FRANCESVILLE, Ind. (WNDU) Police in Pulaski County say three children were found inside a home with guns and a large amount of drugs.

Officers arrested Krystle Danford on a number of drug charges.

At around 10 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to a home on the 100 block of North Plummer Street in Francesville.

Someone reported hearing "screaming and yelling" coming from inside the home.

When officers arrived, they found Danford's three children inside.

They also found a "significant quantity of marijuana and evidence of dealing marijuana."

A further search resulted in additional marijuana being found, as well as firearms, paraphernalia and legend drugs.

The Department of Child Services was called in to help the children.

Danford was booked at the Pulaski County Jail on the following charges:

- Unlawful possession or use of a legend drug, Level 6 Felony
- Maintaining a common nuisance, Level 6 Felony
- Neglect of a dependent, Level 6 Felony
- Dealing in marijuana, Class A Misdemeanor
- Possession of marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor
- Possession of paraphernalia, Class C Misdemeanor

One killed, one injured after South Bend shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - One person is dead and another injured after a Saturday morning shooting on the city’s South Side.


It happened before 2 a.m. in the 1500 block of Lebanon. One of the victims drove himself to a local hospital. He was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound and released.

Police then responded to an accident near Fellows and Sample St., where they found the second victim who had crashed while trying to drive himself to a hospital.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit confirmed that person died from his injuries.

On Monday, he was identified as 26-year-old Dijon Jones. An autopsy determined that he died from a gunshot wound, and his manner of death was classified as a homicide.

Police believe there were multiple guns involved in the shooting.

There is still no word on who the shooter(s) was, whether or not those involved in the shooting knew each other, or if there were any gang affiliations.

No suspects have been arrested or taken into custody as of Monday afternoon. Anyone with information is asked to call CMHU at 235-5009 or Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP.

SOUTH BEND — A man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon at a hotel on the city's west side. Police are searching for two suspects who fled in the aftermath of the shooting.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit Commander Tim Corbett said police were called to the Knights Inn, 3233 Lincoln Way West, at 2:36 p.m. on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man dead inside one of the rooms in the middle of the complex.

Investigators are not releasing the name of the victim pending family notification, Corbett said.

"Presently we are looking for two individuals," Corbett said. "We know who they are."

Corbett declined to provide additional details on the suspects. No one is in custody related to the shooting.

Investigators have interviewed several people. As of early evening, police were waiting for a search warrant to enter the room and process it for additional evidence, Corbett said.

"Once again this is a case of people can't settle something without violence. Police can't be everywhere at every time," Corbett said. "Sometimes people just have to look in the mirror and realize they're the cause of problem not society, not the police, not everybody else."

Corbett said police are consistently called to the property, including a prior homicide investigation.

"If it looks like it's going to escalate into violence leave," Corbett said. "What could have been the cause of this that was so important that you have to kill somebody over it? The answer's nothing."

Parks department says South Bend Kids' Kingdom fire was act of vandalism

SOUTH BEND — An act of vandalism at a fun staple in South Bend.
There is heavy damage to the Kids Kingdom playground in Potawatomi Park after city officials say someone purposely set it on fire.
Luckily no one was injured from the blaze.
South Bend's Venues, Parks & Arts Department thanked neighbors for quickly calling 911.
The park will temporarily be closed for repairs.
No word on when it will re-open.

Two people arrested in LaPorte on charges of incest

Two people in LaPorte face charges for incest and could face additional charges, after police say drugs were found in their home.
53-year-old Jolly Standifer and his 35-year-old daughter Nichole Murphy are in the LaPorte County Jail. Their daughter was removed from that home.
The adults were arrested Tuesday night after police in the City of LaPorte went to the home to serve a warrant.
"When they arrived they ended up having to force their way in a little bit, made contact with the subjects, took them into custody and while in the process they located some drugs,” said Captain Bill Degnegaard.
The County Drug Task Force says they found over half a pound of marijuana in Murphy and Standifer's home. They also found dirt and drying stations. Officers say the pair were running a grow operation.
Standifer and Murphy could face charges for dealing.
But right now, court documents only show charges for incest. Child Protective Services is dealing with the child.
“CPS is going to do all of the follow up. From this point on it's all going to be on CPS and what they do with her. Hopefully they get this resolved and get her with a family member to take care of her which I assume is going to happen” said Degnegaard.
Standifer and Murphy's neighbors say they avoided the couple because of the smell from the house.
They didn't think Standifer and Murphy were anything other than a normal married couple.
"This is actually a rare case. You don't see a lot of this. This is actually my first that I've seen. I mean I'm sure it happens, more than we know and we're just not notified about it but yeah this is a new one for me even,” said Degnegaard.
Degnegaard says it could take a few weeks to get the little girl into a safe home.
If Murphy and Standifer are convicted they could face up to eight years in prison.
